The Brief

The redevelopment of the Grade II-listed Hafod-Morfa Copperworks in Swansea required a specialist glazing package as part of its transformation into the Penderyn Distillery and Visitor Centre.

Working within a historic setting and an active construction site, the project needed to balance the architectural character of the original buildings with the performance requirements of a modern visitor destination. The glazing package also needed to address areas of water ingress while integrating with the wider building design.

Heritage Glazing at a Landmark Distillery

The Outcome

The completed glazing package helped transform the historic former copperworks into a modern distillery and visitor destination while respecting the character of the Grade II-listed site.

The new curtain walling and acoustic glazing introduced natural light and modern thermal and acoustic performance, while the entrance systems created a contemporary, accessible arrival point for visitors. Careful detailing around the existing architecture and copper-coloured brise soleil helped the new glazing sit comfortably within the wider redevelopment.

Working within a live construction environment, we coordinated glazing, access and lifting operations to deliver the specialist package over a three-week programme, including remedial works to address water ingress and provide a durable, weather-resistant finish.

Our Solution

We delivered a specialist glazing package combining modern curtain walling, acoustic glazing and entrance systems with detailing designed to complement the historic surroundings.
