Home Security FAQs

Can you replace my Chubb lock?

Chubb no longer manufactures household locks, but we can replace it with a like-for-like lock made by Union, Yale or ERA.

How do I know if my lock can be snapped?

If you have uPVC or composite door, or you have to lift the handle to lock your door, you most probably have a Euro-cylinder lock. However, if you have a Secured by Design door that was fitted after 2010, it should already have an anti-snap lock fitted.

How long will it take to install my new home security alarm?

Depending on the type of home you have and the product(s) you have chosen, you can expect 1 engineer to install your home security alarm (and any accessories) in around 3-6 hours.

I live in an apartment or flat – can I still have a security alarm?

Yes, you can! We have the Apartment Alarm available, which is mounted inside the property rather than on the outside wall. As many people who live in apartments rent or do not have permission/the means to install an alarm on the outside of the building itself, this alarm ensures that you’re still covered.

What can I do if my lock is vulnerable?

There are many different anti-snap locks on the market, but we recommend the Yale anti-snap lock as we believe it is the most secure. Our engineers can quickly install a new lock for little cost.

The Yale lock also has anti-pick, anti-bump, anti-screw, and anti-drill protection options and is BSI Kitemark Approved – a symbol of quality and performance. It also meets the TS007 1 Star protection grade, is guaranteed for 10 years, and comes with 3 keys.

What is a multi-point locking mechanism?

This is not a lock-in itself but is powered by a euro cylinder lock. A multi-point locking mechanism is a line of bolts down the edge of a door that extends into the frame when the key is turned to lock it. This mechanism is often found on uPVC and composite doors, and on the patio and French doors.

If your door is older than 5 years, then your multi-point locking mechanism is probably no longer manufactured. There have been major advances in this technology, and our locksmiths are able to fit a Universal Yale Multi-Locking System to most doors.

What maintenance will my new lock require?

In order to keep your locks in top working order for the longest time possible, it’s advisable to give them a little attention every year or so. This helps to keep your home secure, extends the life of the lock, and prevents the need for potentially expensive repairs in the future. You simply need to lubricate the lock with oil or specialist lock lubrication – you can find products like this at any home hardware shop. It’s also advisable to keep your lock clean and to remove any obstructions.

What maintenance will my new security alarm require?

Your new alarm/accessories shouldn’t need any maintenance other than keeping them free of dirt and dust. A quick wipe over with a soft cloth (please don’t use water on electronic equipment!!) should keep your alarm and accessories free of dust and working properly. If you’ve chosen to have the smoke alarm accessory, then you will need to regularly test this for fire safety reasons.
