Requirement
Evander were contacted by a longstanding client regarding a 72 bedroom purpose built care home in Stanmore, Greater London, a location which offers short respite stays and permanent residential, nursing and dementia care.
Owing to the age and condition of the existing timber windows at the home, our client was seeking a solution which offered improved thermal and security benefits as well as modernisation and of course, safety compliance.

Solution
We attended site to complete a full survey. We recommended the installation of 82 new UPVC windows to the first floor locations and a number of ground floor windows and French doors.
The proposed units were Eurocell Logik Ovolo casement windows and matching French doors, with rosewood external finish and white internal. We installed A++ energy efficient safety glass and key locking detachable restrictors to each sash to ensure the safety of the residents.
The care home remained fully operational throughout works. Naturally the safety, welfare and comfort of residents was of paramount importance. During a pre-start site meeting with the clients Regional Facilities Manager and Maintenance Team we agreed ways of working, site etiquette and RAMS. We provided welfare facilities for our operatives to minimise residence disturbance as well as skips, a safe site compound and fixed scaffold.
All works were completed over a period of six weeks completing individual resident rooms in line with the pre-agreed timetable.

Overcoming Challenges
A fully worthwhile exercise which included a check of all of the windows and doors externally and internally. Once again a job well done and hopefully we’ll meet on another similar project in the future.
