Garage Door FAQ

  • Can my existing frame be used for my new garage door?

In some cases, the frame that’s holding in your current garage door can be reused, but this depends on a number of factors. We would not recommend re-using a timber frame, as utilising existing drill holes can compromise the integrity of your new door, and we want to make sure we do an excellent job which is going to last.

Our engineer should be able to check this during your free survey and advise accordingly. We would not be able to confirm the use of an existing frame without checking it in person first.

  • How quickly does a motorised garage door open?

The opening speed of an automated door varies depending on the size/weight of the door and how old the mechanism is, but you can expect it to move at around 160mm (6inches) per second.

  • What if the garage door size I have supplied is wrong?

Garage doors are notoriously complicated when it comes to working out the correct measurements, which is why we provide a free survey before confirming your order. If you have supplied us with the wrong measurements this will be rectified by the surveyor and will not affect the time it takes to get your door fitted. It will, however, be likely to change the price of your door. For more information about how to measure your garage door, please see our guide.

  • What is included in the price of my garage door?

The cost of your garage door includes:

  1. The garage door itself
  2. The internal opening mechanism
  3. VAT
  4. Full installation
  5. A basic black handle (except for Roller & Sectional doors)
  6. Roller doors only –The door motor and two remote handsets
  • Which garage door material is best?

This depends on the look you want to create for your home, your budget and your opinions on maintenance. The pros and cons for each material can be found in the material guide, helping you to make an informed decision. Often, it’s the opening mechanism that dictates the material of the door, as some door types may only be available in one or two base materials. You can find out more by looking at the Garage Door Material Guide.

  • Which garage door opening mechanism should I choose?

Each opening mechanism has its benefits and depending on the type of garage you have, one type may suit much better than another. Check out our guides to each opening style to see which one works best for your needs. Our knowledgeable staff are on call 24/7 and can help with this if you are still unsure.

  • Will my garage door require a lot of maintenance?

A timber door will require regular maintenance throughout its lifetime, whereas steel, steel with a timber effect and aluminium doors require very little. See our guide to the different door materials to find out what you need to do to take care of your chosen door. Our experienced engineers should also be able to advise you on the best way to care for your new garage door.
